Zama Zama Dance and Development Centre is a community development organisation that uses dance to engender broad socio‐economic development, while also effecting positive social change. Founded in 2012 in the Mathare area which is one of Africa’s largest and poorest slums, Zama Zama dance is a pioneer in linking of dance with social improvement and community development activities such as slum garbage cleanups, environmental improvement and HIV/AIDs prevention and menstrual hygiene awareness. Zama Zama dance and development Centre works with schools from the slum, our project visits different schools in the slums and creates awareness on this topic. We also fundraise and buy sanitary pads that are given to girls in school at no cost.
Our vision is to realize a society free from poverty. Our missions are to create education opportunities for members, to empower children and youth in acquiring knowledge and skill in order to improve their livelihood, to create awareness on proper sanitation and healthy living through use of dance as a tool for development, to establish a cross cultural exchange program network and expound on the ideology of dance and development, and promotion of dance in the community.
